Все-таки русские девушки - проститутки для всех людей! Это уже стереотип! Та же самая история, что и с водкой. Обидно!!!

«I am a 26-year-old American female and everywhere I go, koreans ask or assume that I am Russian (I don't think I look Russian---I have hispanic features.) I had no problem with this but my Korean friend and boyfriend told me that this is not a good thing and that I better be careful of my "appearance" (I dress modestly and usually am in my modest teaching clothes). What is the deal going on with this? My boyfriend doesn't even allow me to wear a certain hat because he says "men will think you are russian." I have heard of the stereotype that Koreans believe all Russian women in korea are trafficked prostitutes. My question is if korean people think you are Russian do they automatically think you are a prostitute (this seems so ludicrous to me)? Because I take great measures to make sure I dress respectfully and not talk to any men when I am alone yet I still have business men or high school boys giggling and whispering or trying to accost me when I am around and its getting annoying. Any other foreign women in Korea who have this problem? HOw do you deal?»
